I haven’t done the Portrait Profile yet. I’m a little intimated. I’m beyond the basics but need to do some level 1 first.
The quality of instruction is quite good, but the supplies are a bit tricky. It uses a wide variety of shades. This variety may be because it is a beginner set and not teaching much color theory or blending. Most of the pencils used for this can be found in the Prismacolor Premier Portrait set. The mineral orange is harder to get, but essential to this project. The gray 30% is really just for the eye and could be skipped. Both of these colors were out of stock at Blick online, so they were a little extra hard to get. I found them at Jerry's artarama. Generally, check the supplies lists for the other peojects too. The pencils are not always available in small sets like this project.
I enjoyed creating this portrait. I found the skin tones to be too yellow so clearly didn’t follow the instructions correctly. I used my own discretion in the end to simulate the end product. I would recommend that you practice the tonal levels to match the table first so that the outcome matches the instructions given more closely. Overall a great experience and I hope I achieved the expected outcome.
Loved doing this and learned so much. Have since purchased more coloured pencils and intend to do many more.
I was very disappointed. The instructions were vague and not clear enough
