WINNER SELECTED NOVEMBER 2027

$8,000 Vision Grant

Applications open July 7, 2027
Colored pencils and purple pencil drawing sparkling light, landscape composition

Who Are We Looking For?

The Vision Grant supports an ambitious project designed to make a meaningful impact in the colored pencil community. If you need resources in order to bring a really big idea to life, this is your moment to take a chance on yourself and apply! Both individuals and groups are welcome to apply. More eligibility details below.

Picture the possibilities

Imagine bringing a colored pencil exhibition to a place where people rarely get to see the medium up close, with demonstrations that invite visitors to try it themselves.

Make room for connection

You might build a mentorship program connecting experienced artists with people finding their creative voice, or create a supply-lending library that helps more people get started.

Let your idea
take shape

Perhaps your vision is to create a video documentary about colored pencil artists, or start an accessible learning resource. The possibilities really are endless, as long as your idea sparks an impact in the CP world.

Picture the people your project could reach and what would become possible with the time, tools, and support to follow through. Tell us what you want to create, why it matters, and how the grant would help you make it happen. These are possibilities to spark ideas, not specific requests for proposal.

Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• Individual artists and small groups are welcome; corporations are not eligible.
• Applicants from anywhere in the world are welcome.
• You should have a genuine interest in and connection to colored pencil art.
• You do not need to be a professional or highly accomplished artist.
• Current employees and contractors in ongoing paid staff roles for annkullberg.com are not eligible.

Please note:

• Instructors and authors who work with annkullberg.com or COLOR Magazine are welcome to apply. However, all proposals must demonstrate a meaningful benefit to the colored pencil community beyond teaching or writing for annkullberg.com or COLOR Magazine.
• The judging panel will include at least two independent members from beyond our usual colored pencil network. Existing relationships receive no preference, and judges agree to recuse themselves if they have a close personal or professional relationship with an applicant.

What Will the Judges Consider?

Our judging panel will consider the following criteria when selecting the recipient(s):

• Community impact: How the project could benefit the colored pencil community.

• Originality: The fresh ideas or opportunities the project offers.

• A clear plan: How thoughtfully the project’s goals, budget and next steps are outlined.

• Ability to follow through: The experience, resources or support that will help bring the project to life.

• Demonstrated need: How the grant would help make the project possible.

How to apply

Applications open from July 7 to Sept. 22, 2027. Here’s what we'll ask for, so you can start to prepare:

1

Tell us your story

We'll ask you to share your background, why colored pencil matters to you, and answer questions about your journey as artist. For groups, we'll ask that your application includes background information about a few key members.

2

Share your artwork

Prepare approximately 3-5 best examples of your colored pencil artwork, plus a short video introducing yourself and your work (3 minutes or less). An artist résumé or CV is welcome, but not required.

3

Describe your vision

Describe your proposed project or vision, what you hope to accomplish, and how you plan to use the grant funding. If selected to receive this grant, you'll be expected to provide regular updates about your progress that will be shared with our community in COLOR Magazine and on Ann Kullberg blogs and social media.

Applications open July 7, 2027
