I LEARNED II

Finished a re-do of the Black Butterfly, and am very, very pleased with the results. After some clarifications from the artist via an email from Ann's staff, I was able to complete the piece with better results and fewer mistakes. I WON'T HESITATE TO PURCHASE MORE LIKE ITEMS FROM ANN IN THE FUTURE.

I LEARNED

It was a fairly rewarding learning experience in that I've wanted to do some pieces on black paper for some time now, but was somewhat hesitant about doing so. I was generally pleased with the results but did notice a glitch or two in the instruction set. For instance: requiring a lilac CP in the materials list, but not calling for its use in the drawing. Another was including a leaf in the line drawing, but not in the instruction set...no big deal, but resulted in less than total confidence in the project. More egregious to me were the skimpy instructions on the implied background. What kind of brush was to be used? The most important lesson for me, though, was that I learned not to spray the piece with fixative (or to be much more careful about doing so) as the black paper made it look as though the butterfly was working in the rain. I'll do it over.
