About In-Depth Tutorials:

Created by master colored pencil artists, each In-Depth tutorial features 30+ steps and focuses on teaching you why and not just how the artist applies their technique. No book or video comes close to the amount of instruction in an In-Depth tutorial. Art instruction books typically contain 4-6 steps per demo. That just scratches the surface! With large images and 30 or more steps, In-Depth tutorials truly show you exactly how the artist works, making it easy to truly learn new colored pencil techniques and achieve success.

Note: Drawing paper and pencils not included. See images for complete supply list.

Black Leopard

I wrote a review earlier but it vanished somewhere in cyberspace but here’s a picture of the tutorial I tried to do. The pattern was a bit difficult for me because too many lines that I wasn’t sure of but I really wanted to try this so I pushed on. I’m not sure how to flip it so if need to please flip it if you want.

Challenging

As somewhat of a newbie I wanted to try this piece as I have tooled on leather and painted landscapes and animals in landscapes but haven't done much with colored pencil. First I would suggest that whoever tries this does not transfer all the lines in the pattern like I did and to look at the picture to decide what you need to transfer. Will save time and frustration if transferring with graphite transfer paper. I worked and worked this trying to make sense of all the lines later -- but maybe it's because I am new to this and don't have that many tutorials under my belt. I happened to have all the pencil sets required so I tried to follow as well as possible. Wax build up did finally happen due to all the layers -- I had a lot of pencils down. I am trying to decide if I am happy with it or not but I definitely learned more. I would also suggest using a larger pattern to do the project, I had a 9x12 sheet of Strathmore Colored Pencil Paper and used the pattern size in the printed tutorial which was 7 1/2 inches in height by 8 1/2 inches in length. I think the suggestion is for Stonehenge Fine Art Paper 12x11. Someday after I have more experience I may attempt it again. The only reason I gave a 4 star rating instead of a 5 was due to the pattern. Other than that it was very challenging to say the least especially for someone still learning. And the only reason I didn't download another pattern is because I don't have a printer at hand while doing this to get a bigger pattern and once I started due to the expense of the pencils used I was not going to waste either pencils or paper to start again. I also could not get the whiskers back in with all the dark colors so I used a gel pen and only added a few and for some reason saw more coming out of the brow than she had in the tutorial and in the main picture. I really enjoyed trying this but had to go my own way in some things but I do that with anything so not any fault with the tutorial. Worth it in experience to both color it and to try mixing all the colored pencil combinations to see how they work together. I will post pictures of finished piece from my phone.

I have only just started it. It is intensive but I know when I have completed it I will have learned a lot.

Jaguar

I have not worked it. The reason is that the materials cost too much. Had I known the costs in advance, I would not have purchased it.

I haven’t worked it yet. I looked the materials over and the instructions look easy to follow.
