    About In-Depth Tutorials:

Created by master colored pencil artists, each In-Depth tutorial features 30+ steps and focuses on teaching you why and not just how the artist applies their technique. No book or video comes close to the amount of instruction in an In-Depth tutorial. Art instruction books typically contain 4-6 steps per demo. That just scratches the surface! With large images and 30 or more steps, In-Depth tutorials truly show you exactly how the artist works, making it easy to truly learn new colored pencil techniques and achieve success.

Note: Drawing paper not included. See list of supplies needed in images.

My first colored pencil portrait of a baby. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos instead of Prismacolor Premier Pencils on Strathmore Museum Mounting Board.

I wanted to do a portrait in coloured pencil after managing to accomplish a few in graphite pencil and charcoal. This tutorial was relatively easy to follow and gave me a sense of what is required to accomplish this. I would recommend it to anyone who has a little experience. It might be a bit daunting for people just starting out. I think a little more clarity in some of the steps would then be required.

My ultimate goal is to draw my grandchildren. I’m new to colored pencil painting and found this to be an amazing learning experience. I am currently working on one of my grandchildren and so far I’m pleased. Between referring to Sweet Slumber and my photo it’s coming along nicely.

    Sweet Slumber: In Depth Tutorial

I bought this tutorial to help me with the skin of babies. I tried adapting your tutorial to my own drawing. I found that I overworked the skin tones which meant I ended up with pencil not adhering to the paper. I used Art Spectrum Colourfix smooth pastelmat paper. Beautiful to draw on, but was unforgiving to me, as I mucked up the colouring/shading on the shoulders and her forhead. The space between the eyes and eyebrow is not as I would have liked it either. I would appreciate any constructive criticism, as this is my second attempt at doing a portrait. My granddaughter is 6 months old in this drawing.
