Even though they are often simpler in coloration than flowers, creating realistic veining and surface texture on leaves can be challenging. In this class, Amy will show you techniques for creating the proper values, hues, and intensity changes that make a leaf look like a leaf.

• Two different methods for creating veining.
• A simple, step-by-step strategy for creating value and modeling.
• To observe the differences created by underpainting with a grisaille layer as compared to a complement layer.

About Amy: Amy Lindenberger is the author of several colored pencil instruction books, including CP Surfaces: Black Paper and CP Surfaces: Pastelmat; Amy has taught colored pencil widely for decades, in the Midwest and on Ann Kullberg sponsored Colored Pencil Workshop Cruises. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Akron (OH) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing.

Scheduled on both weekdays and weekends, we hope to accommodate every schedule.

  • You'll receive an email with a link to download the "How to Prepare" PDF that includes the Zoom meeting link and instructions. SAVE this PDF.
  • On the day of the workshop, just before class begins, click on the link to enter the classroom.
  • As Amy demonstrates, you'll get to ask questions.

    Amy is a superb instructor. The information she shares and the pace at which she shares it are perfect. I am so enjoying these lessons about the foundations for creating Botanical Art. I thought at first that this would be a repetition of instruction I had already had. Not true. I learned much about: light source for botanicals; underpainting for a leaf and other projects; and more.

    Wonderful teacher.

    The class was great with Amy answering many questions I had regarding drawing botanical pieces. Amy gave a comprehensive overview of the steps a botanical artist should take to produce a lifelike botanical drawing. She provided handouts that were easy to understand and related directly to the concepts she was describing. Amy’s presentation was clear and her voice was very understandable, She was happy to take questions and answer them throughly. I was extremely happy with all her classes on botanical illustration.
