As artists, it’s essential to understand color, but opportunities to learn are not abundant, especially for colored pencil artists. This ground-breaking book by seasoned author Amy Lindenberger more than fills that need beautifully.

COLORS: A Workbook covers a range of skills for handling color, beginning with color perception — the ability to see color accurately — and color analysis — the ability to classify a color according to its hue, value and intensity. It moves on to demonstrating how to use that information to match that color in a drawing, by either selecting the proper color or by learning to mix the proper color.

These skills are the primary goal of many artists wanting to master color.

With Amy’s well-explained, detailed guidance, you will create physical tools to help you match hue, value and intensity. Once you have created these tools, the knowledge will be with you forever, and the tools will help you in every future colored pencil drawing.

  • Hands-on learners

Colors: A Workbook - Matching, Mixing & Selection for Colored Pencils

I am yet to complete the book. But to the extent, I have read and grasped, It is not just a regular book, with instructions of know how , I could see the know why also being imparted. I always felt a shortfall in understanding even after, I have done lot of color pencil works, the question of will I be able to do independently??? I think this book has addressed that. Great knowledge sharing....Not just another great effort, ..but a great effort and the learning will stay with me for ever

Invaluable tool for any colored pencil artist

I haven’t had the opportunity to actually work through the exercises yet as I’ve been on the road. I did however read through the whole thing and it definitely gave me a better sense of matching values which is something I really struggle with! Highly recommend! And Amy Lindenberger is an excellent teacher! Very user friendly!

Well done color reference tool!

If you are a beginner or even a veteran colored pencil user, you will like this book! Interesting and to the point. And the theory here is not for colored pencils alone. It can be used for other mediums. I know color theory well, but this takes you beyond basic color mixing and helps you to understand and apply Hue and Intensity. Very enjoyable!
