As artists, it’s essential to understand color, but opportunities to learn are not abundant, especially for colored pencil artists. This ground-breaking book by seasoned author Amy Lindenberger more than fills that need beautifully.

COLORS: A Workbook covers a range of skills for handling color, beginning with color perception — the ability to see color accurately — and color analysis — the ability to classify a color according to its hue, value and intensity. It moves on to demonstrating how to use that information to match that color in a drawing, by either selecting the proper color or by learning to mix the proper color.

These skills are the primary goal of many artists wanting to master color.

With Amy’s well-explained, detailed guidance, you will create physical tools to help you match hue, value and intensity. Once you have created these tools, the knowledge will be with you forever, and the tools will help you in every future colored pencil drawing.

Who can best benefit from this book?

  • Visual learners
  • Hands-on learners

Colors A Workbook

I am using this as a practice along with Karen Hull's color match worksheets/book. It is helping me understand more and I am practicing with the projects within the Color book by Amy Lindenberger. So sorry I was not able to attend the live class with her. She is a tremendous resource.

Just what I needed

I am not all the way thru the book yet as I am taking it slow and getting all my 'swatches' done. Being new to color pencils and color matching this is going to be a tremendous help in training my brain how to do this. Thank you Amy for taking the time to put this in a format I can understand. It will make my progress go so much faster.

Colours

Working my way through and at the moment I am half way through the colour wheel. I have studied colour theory many times with various books and videos but this one is one of my favourites and I intend to do every lesson to the end.

A Workbook - Matching, Mixing & Selection for Colored Pencils

After a quick glance, this seems to be exactly what I've been needing when working on my own projects. However now that summer is finally upon us, I will likely not be working on any new colored pencil projects until fall or winter seasons.

Much needed book

There has never been a more comprehensive easy to understand and helpful book on colour theory for pencil artists ever. It has taught me how to look at colour and isolate it in a different way and although I have just read the over the book am now starting again doing the exercises in the workbook. The webcam meet-up helped enormously, although I didn’t catch it live, to the reasoning behind the exercises a great must have book for any budding or seasoned cp artist to have.
