About Denise Howard:
Denise is the author of 101 Textures in Colored Pencil from Walter Foster Publishing. She has work published in several books, and is popular as a workshop presenter. She is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, the UK Coloured Pencil Society, and the Pencil Art Society.

I really enjoyed this session with Denise Howard. She explained three kinds of papers and noted the differences between them. She also gave tips about how to draw and what materials to use on each surface. It was very informative and will be useful when I choose my next project. Thank you, Denise.

Nice demo of surfaces

If you don’t know much about the surfaces Denise demoed, this is a great demo to introduce you to them. She is very thorough in explaining their characteristics. But even though I know these surfaces she reawakened my understanding of neocolor ll on them. Well done!

Interesting demo!

Denise Howard gave an interesting presentation on 4 different textured surfaces. I had no previous experience with 3 of them so I was happy to learn about new possibilities for my color pencil art. She was organized and demonstrated how different pencils work on each surface. She also showed us her inspiring and beautiful drawings done on the different surfaces. She is an amazing artist! I highly recommend Denise as a teacher.

Super Introduction to Rough Surfaces

As usual, I found the demo packed with useful, practial information and great application ideas. I now know more about "gritty" surfaces like Uart and pastelbord, different pigments and techniques that can be used to create lovely base layers and backgrounds, and what to avoid too...

Rise to the Surface JellyBean Class

This was a fabulous class with Denise Howard! Denise is a wonderfully talented artist as well as a very giving teacher! She was organized & taught as much as she could, freely sharing her knowledge of the different sanded surfaces for colored pencils. And although I have used all these surfaces previously, I still learned tips & background information on these surfaces, plus info on how they accept different types of pencils, and blending mediums & tools. Denise was very thorough on this subject.
