I watch for a few minutes and saw the artist “ bobbling” his pencil while drawing. This keeps the point sharp. I also do this but see I need to up my frequency of turning it while I draw. I don’t use the tracing paper but can see using it would I’ll significantly reduce my prep time to drawing. I can take days on this stage freehand drawing.Let’s get down to coloring. . .The handy cheap tray that keeps pencils at hand and on your desk instead of rolling off was a great tip I learned after breaking several leads so about $2.35 per pencil. Flash. Saved enough to buy whole sets. Following the direction of the drawing, ok I know this one. Makes a better drawing with more life and movement. Knowing color pencil show requirements made it easy to forgo the white pen but it was not as snazzy as the “ real thing “. The instructor had a smooth melodic voice, very reassuring and easy to listen to. I’m partially deaf so test for your own conclusions.Light over dark; dark over light, I keep scrap on my desk to test combinations. Test before botching all the work done already.Play music or Dr. Who videos. Must remember. Loved the paper recommendation. Have not had much problems erasing this one. Use tracing paper under my hand to increase glide and less random marks. Have yet to try Icarus drawing board but it has improved my other drawingsSO Do someone a favor and sign them up for this class. They will thanks you.I love the short jellybean classes. You can follow along or draw afterwards. I just wish I could pay for a personal critique but it would keep the artist from doing more work while arguing with me. No one wants that.
Phil Schorn did a wonderful job explaining all the nuances of colored pencils on black paper. Can’t wait to try it out myself. Thanks Phil
The instructor was very knowledgeable and had a nice teaching style. Not only was the class informative, but the questions at the end produced even more good information, like which colors do best on black paper. A positive experience.
Phil gave so many tips for working on black paper. I love his unique approach to adding the white color after layers for blending. He also gave great information on which subjects are best for black paper.
Another fantastic class with Phil Schorn. His method of teaching makes understanding colored pencil all come together. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or advanced artist, there is so much to learn in Phil’s classes. Also, he has a wealth of knowledge that he always shares with his students.
