About Aimee Croteau: Aimee Croteau is a colored pencil artist and recent graduate from the Studio Art program at Eastern Washington University. She derives much of her inspiration from nature and loves to draw animals. She often uses an airbrush to paint her backgrounds, giving her drawings a softer feel.
I highly recommend this class with colored pencil artist Aimee Croteau. She is energetic, supportive and a talented artist. There were two four-hour sessions, leaving us panting and exhausted at the end! Aimee is fast, fast, fast, and her technique of using a Slice tool to scratch away the colored pencil on our PAPER surface was mind-blowing. I have seen it done on drafting film but never on paper. We received a detailed illustrated tutorial in pdf form beforehand, as well as the supply list and Padlet sign-on instructions. Ann's staff handled my enrollment promptly, and Priscilla was available during class to help with any technical issues that we might have had.The recommended support was Canson recycled Bristol vellum 260g paper, which is very sturdy and accepted all the layers I could put down. Aimee's colored pencil of choice is Caran D'Ache Luminance because of their luminosity. She said that Prismacolor would work well, if we didn't already have the Caran D'Ache pencils. They have a creamy laydown with minimal wax crumbles. In our 8 hours of working on the dog, the paper never refused to accept more layers. In fact, the key to scratching with the Slice tool lay in putting more layers down than you can ever imagine, and using the tool to scratch highlights and small details back into the drawing. My picture has a few of the scratches, mostly on the muzzle where we put lots of black and grey. The rest of the dog needs many more layers, and I will do more scratches when I have built up the surface more substantially.Using the Slice tool is a valuable addition to your colored pencil toolbox. I highly recommend this seminar and any others that Aimee teaches. I recommend practicing uploading photos of your work to the Padlet app ahead of time, as well as printing out the tutorial and having it at your fingertips if you fall behind during class. This seminar was a great value CP artists looking to expand their colored pencil expertise.
What a wonderful experience! Aimee is a wonderful teacher and explained everything in detail and made sure we all were staying with her thru out the two day sessions. This was my first live Zoom colored pencil course and will not be my last. You could tell by everyone’s art work we got to look at that the whole class did really well with Aimee’s style of teaching.I highly recommended that you take one of her classes to see for yourself. I’m sure you will love the results. I’m just a beginner and could not believe what I learned for those two days. I still have to finish up with the slicing tool but wanted to show the drawing now. Thanks Aimee, Great class!
Aimee did a wonderful job, enjoyed the workshop a lot. Very detailed helpful teaching, strongly recommended..
Enjoyed doing this with colored pencils on a Saturday morning. Can’t wait for the class I am signed up for to see how much improvement there will be after the 2, 4 hour sessionsI’m hoping there will be a huge difference than what I did this morningStill had fun with it for a beginner.
