Can you hear the waves, feel the wind and sunshine?
But can you DRAW it?
Scott to the rescue!
A pro at drawing wet sand and shiny rocks and a master instructor, Scott will teach you how to draw the challenging subject of sand. And you get to stipple in class – bet you haven’t done too much of that before, right? Scott says it’s fun!
You’ll also draw shiny wet beach rocks as well as bubbly, foamy waves as they spread across the sand. So many marvelous textures and techniques to enjoy trying your hand at in this Summer Beach Pajama Class.
In this workshop, Scott will show you how to:- Layer colors through a stippling process to create believable sand.
- Glaze layers of color to create wet, shiny realistic rocks
- Create the texture of foamy water coming onto the shore.
Plus, you'll walk away with a beautiful landscape... by you!
After this workshop, you’ll be ready to try what you've learned with your own art!
Come to class in your pajamas!
About Scott: Scott Krohn has been teaching art for more than 25 years and has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. His work has won numerous awards including the CPSA International Exhibition CIPPY Award for Best of Show.
Scott is a great art teacher ! He explains things very well, allows for questions and provides a visual label for each pencil color as he works. The only thing that would have made my experience better is if I had traced the line art with an erasable pencil instead of printing it directly on my art surface. I understand that Scott wanted to make it easy to transfer the line art to the surface. However, for me, if I am going to put several hours into a drawing, I would have much preferred not to see the line art on my finished drawing. This is not to take away from my review of how much I learned from Scott about stippling (sandy beach) and drawing beach rocks and the ocean. I loved this workshop!
Scott is organized and his teaching style is clear, encouraging, and supportive. I learned so much about textures and was happy to work on a surface new to me. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent class. Scott is an amazing teacher, very organized. I love how he has rectangles with the name of the colors he is using on the screen. Its a simple thing, but it helps a lot, when you are working at same time as the teacher. I am already looking for his next class.
This beach scene class was so valuable. There are so many textures in this small scene, and each had their own technique. The pace was brisk but not overly so. Don’t expect to complete the picture during class, as there is so much detail. However, you will learn each technique well enough to easily complete it on your own—and you will want to because it is so beautiful! A couple of tips to help you be successful: Don’t wait until just before class to check your supply list. Scott primarily works on Canson Mi-Teintes steel grey paper and using Caran d’Ache Pablo pencils. Neither one of these are generally found in a standard craft store, and if you buy a pad of the paper they do not list the colors included. I highly recommend buying from Dick Blick or Jerry’s Art-A-Rama online, where you can be more specific about what you buy and can easily find the class supplies open stock. Secondly, I printed my line art on printer paper then transferred it to my support using graphite transfer paper. I was easily able to cover the marks and will be able to finish the piece I started in class. A couple of other students that had printed directly onto their support were frustrated by not being able to cover the dark heavy lines, and ended up using the course to learn the techniques and will go back to recreate the piece outside of class. I’m two days into this piece, so I’m glad I’m able to continue on with the piece I started. The attached photo shows where I got to in the class. Not complete, but I definitely know where I’m going with it!Have fun and enjoy Scott’s class!
Really enjoyed the class, learnt a few techniques, new paper. Class was interactive and I received feedback on my progress.
