Packed with 12 issues of CP Magazine (published in 1999), a handy index and the 1st Annual Member Show.
I'm really hesitating as I write this review because I've found every other kit here (I own them all) to be nothing short of perfection. I've basically learned the overwhelming majority of the techniques I use as an artist from Ann's products and project kits. You can view my work in several of the member galleries. I can't say for certain, but my negative rating may well be based on my not working frequently with Coloursoft pencils, as I had different struggles on another project that used them. I LOVE Genny! I absolutely adore the subject matter and the author's rendition of the reference photo. The challenge I'm having (and it's made this kit nearly unusable for me) is not in the instructional narrative, but in the quality of the accompanying interim photos of each step. The first many steps use very pale colors, and from the photos, it's simply impossible to discern where they were applied in many cases. Perhaps it's just that I purchased the digital download, but zooming in makes the issue even worse, as the photos are quite blurred. Ann and crew - please don't be angry that I've written a less than favorable review. It's tough to complain when one out of a hundred project kits doesn't meet my expectations. Thanks for what you've done and continue to do for budding artists!
Helen B doesn't understand the nature of the front cover. It is a piece of artwork from a colored pencil artist to show you what is possible. Artists are honored to be selected for the front cover. I hope some day each of you could be honored in this way.
If you want to try to draw your first dog portrait...I highly recommend you this tutorial! This is my very first pet portrait and I have created this Siberian Husky following the step-by-step tutorial "In-Depth" . I think this kit is very good to start with pet portraits because there aren't many colours in this dog... just shades of greys, white, some pinks and light blues... The instructions are well written and well explained so if you pay enough attention you can reach this result <3 Colored pencils used: Prismacolor Permier. Paper: Canson Mi-Teintes.
Excellent book, lots of details and clear instructions. getting myself geared up for a few projects on black paper!!
