Kay Dewar
Shadows, reflections, textures, and shapes are all integral aspects of a still life. When you can design an arrangement of objects to hold the attention of your viewer and to convince them of its three dimensionality – it’s really quite satisfying and energizing.
Several years ago Kay Dewar found that using a palette of French grays with local color limited to specific objects in her still life arrangements allowed for interesting compositions and intriguing interpretations. Reflections, cast shadows, and textures are important design considerations and are often the most exciting aspects of the artwork. The negative space becomes as important as the positive spaces or elements. Learn Kay's tips and tricks to these elegant images while working on your own French Grey masterpiece!
Kay Dewar has been a graphic designer and website designer and, as a fine artist, exhibits her artwork in local and international shows. Her artwork has been featured in American Artist Magazine and in several of the Best of Colored Pencil books. She is a Signature and Charter Member of the Colored Pencil Society, a 5-year Recognition Recipient and serves on the National Board of the CPSA. She is also a juried member of the Women Painters of Washington.

Wendy Thompson
Colored pencils rise to a new level under the hands of Wendy Thompson. A self taught artist, her drawings of birds, insects and nature are featured on cards, calendars and prints. She has been juried into CPSA International Exhibitions multiple times to earn status as a Signature Member and her beautiful work can be found on note cards for Trader Joe’s and the National Wildlife Federation!
Wendy Thompson's childhood memories are of wading through duckweed, catching frogs, and chasing dragonflies at Carlton Lake in Oregon. She still visits the area ─ now with a sketch pad and colored pencils, transferring nature, in its purest form, to artboard.
"As a self-taught artist, I treasure this gift that I have been given. I strive to emulate every detail, showing weather-torn edges and bug-bitten leaves, to portray that this is a beautiful world, but that it is not perfect. I spend as much time as possible in the forests or garden, and feel quite at home in both.
Gossamer wings, irridescence and transparency....these are things quite difficult to capture in art, but Wendy's class will breeze you through in your own dragon fly and floral project. Maybe there's a hidden illustrator in you just waiting for Wendy's class to shine through. Come find out!
